CORYELL COUNTY, TEXAS
KEY HMP STEPS
Highlighted below are important steps associated with the development of a comprehensive HMP.
Coryell County is currently in the process of completing these steps.
Executive Committee
A small group of representatives from each jurisdiction will be invited to participate in the HMP process. The Committee will coordinate planning efforts and request information, input, and participation throughout the development of the HMP.
Mitigation
Strategy
Mitigation goals for each hazard will be identified followed by the development of a list of potential mitigation actions to reduce the risks associated with the identified hazards.
Public
Survey
A simple survey will be distributed by hardcopy and electronically to allow Coryell County citizens the opportunity to provide input into the HMP. Input may consist of information on hazards experienced in the past, hazards anticipated to occur in the future, the level of concern for each hazard, etc.
Develop
HMP
The HMP will compile all information from the Risk Assessment, Mitigation Strategy and Actions, Public Survey and Meetings, Executive Committee, and other relevant information into one single document.
Public
Meetings
Several public meetings will be held across the County to educate Coryell County citizens about the HMP process, provide status updates, and request input to be contemplated in the HMP. Meetings will be advertised in advance and will be accessible in-person and remotely.
Submit
HMP
The HMP will be sent to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) for review and finalization. TDEM will then send the HMP for final approval to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Risk
Assessment
An assessment of potential hazards will be conducted and impacts from those hazards to the County's citizens, economy, infrastructure, and natural resources will be assessed.
Implement
HMP
Coryell County will review the HMP regularly and will ensure the Mitigation Actions are implemented as described.
